STORYBOOK SUNDAY: Cookiesaurus Rex by Amy Fellner & Nate Evans

HI guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

We're celebrating another day of bookish fun with Storybook Sunday! For those not up to speed on the post, I read a lot of great storybooks and thought, why not give them their own day in the sun. Hence, Storybook Sunday! Feel free to join the fun and create a post on your own site with the same name. I'd love to see any linked up in the comments! Anywho...back to the matter at hand.

Today, we're taking a tasty trip through the pages with a narrator with attitude to spare that's not exactly of our time period...or flesh and blood...more icing and dough.  *ahem*  Yes, our green friend is definitely someone you'd invite to dinner, or perhaps more accurately dessert, and he's not gonna take no for an answer, nor anything less than the best for his outer couture.  Ready or not, make way for today's flour caked, icing covered, sparkly or not, book of choice...

Disney Hyperion

About the book...
As soon as Cookiesaurus Rex comes out of the oven, he declares that he is King of All Cookies. He should be frosted before all of the standard-shaped cookies, in a nice bright green. But the other cookies are getting sprinkles, or shiny stars, or even gumdrops . . . WAIT ONE STINKIN’ STOMPIN’ MINUTE! Cookiesaurus wants a do-over. Problem is, he might not end up with the kind of “do” he wants. Readers will love the funny back-and-forth between this cheeky cookie and the hand that frosts him. See who gets his licks in at the end!

I admit it.
I was sold from the word GO on this one!
I mean, COME ON!
It's a book...about cookies...
...with a DINOSAUR cookie "ruling" them all...
...or at least trying to.
How can you NOT be curious?

Readers of all ages will be ROARing with delight as we see our growly friend go from dignified top hat wearing dino to a ballerina, a clown, and a few things in-between.  The funniest to me?  The baby...and what the illustrator does with those requested chocolate chips, BAHAHAHAHA!  As the story progresses, Cookisaurus Rex is determined to get exactly what he wishes...but, um, yeah...while it's filled to the brim with humor, it DOES remind us why we should always be ever so careful what we wish for...*gulp*...and always remember NOT to bite the hand that feeds us...or decorates us.

Image result for icing bags

In the end, it's a terrific read that puts us right in the mix, so to speak, as the battle between the decorator and his/her victim...I mean, creation...plays out.  It not only gives readers a laugh or a giggle, but invites them to explore their creative sides in the kitchen. and stretch their imaginations to see just how a few simple changes can make a MAJOR difference.  So go ahead...take a bite out of your storybook time with this prehistorically enhanced baking adventure.  You won't be sorry...but you might need a glass of milk.   Fair warning!

About the book...
The perfect summer escape?

Professional dog-walker Felicity Knight loves everything about New York…until her ex-husband starts working at her local vet clinic. She hasn’t seen Seth Carlyle in ten years, but one glimpse of him—too gorgeous, and still too good for her—and Fliss’s heart hurts like their whirlwind marriage ended yesterday. So when her grandmother in the Hamptons needs help for the summer, it seems the ideal way to escape her past.

Their relationship might have lasted only a few scorching months, but vet Seth knows Fliss—if she’s run away to the Hamptons, it’s because she still feels their connection and it terrifies her. He let her go once before, when he didn’t know any better, but not this summer! With the help of his adorable dog, Lulu, and a sprinkling of beachside magic, Seth is determined to make Fliss see that he’s never stopped loving her…

This is the story of Fliss and Seth...what was, has been, and might be.  Once upon a time, they fell madly in love and though their teenage hearts beat true, their pasts colored their futures and what might have been happily-ever-after turned into a nightmare neither could cope with.  It's true what they say, communication is one of the keys to a successful relationship and while physically they spoke volumes, mentally they weren't on the same page.  Flash forward ten long lonely years and let's just say that the potential for awkwardness is there in spades.  How does one handle THAT meeting?  In Fliss' case, she doesn't...avoidance is her tactic and she's sticking to least, she's gonna try to, but it seems as much as she curses the fates, they have a new ending in mind for her story and while HEAs are favored, sometimes they need a little attitude to make it fit just right.

At first, I wasn't as involved in this story.  I know, it shocked the hey out of me too....however, once the ball got rolling, the deception started, and I realized that not only was Seth not as bad as I had him pegged from his cameo in 'New York, Actually', but he was pretty darn smart too, I was reading with new eyes.  Fliss is a unique character in that she takes no prisoners in pretty much anything she does and her protective streak runs straight to her marrow.  True, it started in childhood as a way to combat her father (don't even get me started on that man!), but in adulthood, it's her way of showing how much she cares. The fact that she couldn't apply that same fierceness to her own heart hurt MY heart...but I had a feeling she'd find her way.  Seth is truly one of the good guys.  No, here's not witnessed by that scene in his new home where the words "goodbye" were uttered (bonehead!)...but he's come to terms with what he wants in life and won't stop until she realizes that it's her.  Seeing how in tune they were with each other despite the years that have passed warmed my heart, as did his patient pursuit of her as he sidestepped her defenses without her guard ever realizing.

All in all, it was a wonderful trip to the Hamptons with characters you won't easily forget.  The story was filled with personal discovery, and understanding of both the mind and the heart.  When the final page is turned, we are left with the knowledge that while showing our true selves can be scary, it's the only way to build those bonds that last, and discover the love that was meant to be.  Recommended for adult Contemporary Romance fans for a bit of steaminess and spark.

TLC BOOK TOUR: Branded as Trouble by Delores Fossen - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're saddling up for a TLC Book Tours engagement starring the latest in the Wrangler's Creek series via Harlequin Books.  If you haven't caught sight of the cover yet, let me settle your mind about a few things...

...YES, there's a cowboy pictured.
...YES, it's a gorgeous specimen of a man.
...NO, I still don't like the hat, books, or buckle.
...YES, I will stop insisted that I don't read books with cowboys in them since I seem to have run across more than my fair share recently, have indeed enjoyed them (again, minus the accessories), and feel no need to shy away from them provided they run the contemporary gambit of those I've read of late.

About the book...
Every town needs a bad boy, and Wrangler's Creek's has been gone far too long

Getting his high school girlfriend pregnant was just one square in Roman Granger's checkered past, but it changed him forever. When his son's mother skipped town after the birth, Roman decided to do the same, baby Tate in tow, hoping for a fresh start.

Now Roman fears his teenage son is following in his wayward footsteps, so he returns home to Wrangler's Creek, aiming to set him straight. It's there he encounters Tate's aunt, Mila Banchini, the good-girl opposite of Roman who's had a crush on him since childhood. The old spark between them undeniably never died, though Roman worries it'll only lead to heartache. But if falling for Mila is such a bad idea, why does everything about holding her feel so right?

If you're looking for an easy ride into the sunset, think again. Mila and Roman have been dancing around each other for decades... it's not gonna change overnight. No matter what mojo Vita works. No matter how many not so subtle hints are dropped. No matter how many people seem to know about her "v" status that really shouldn't (no, really...they shouldn't, WHY is this public information?!). However, if one of them happened to take a step in the other's direction, play the game by the rules of the other, and make an offer that could hardly be refused... well then, that just might change things. For better or worse though, now that remains to be the mean time, I highly suggest you watch out for the sparks because like it or not, they're gonna fly.

Roman is the "branded" one, but aside from teenage pranks and a bad judgment call when it came to bedroom activities, he's really not a bad guy.  Sure he can be surly (he also has a teenage son, so there you go), he's on the road A LOT (but he's gonna pay the bills), and he has this odd little "three times" rule when it comes to the women he beds (commitment phobe, natch), but that's only half the man before us.  Roman is also fiercely protective of those he cares for (seriously, don't mess with the family), tries his hardest to be a good father (did I mention, don't mess with the family?), and follows that dumb rule to a "T" so that neither he, his son, nor the women involved get hurt.   See?  Tip top guy...even when he does have to kick some butt.  As much as I was surprised by Roman's depth and character, I really loved the way Mila was written.

Image result for lassoed heart

Mila is the good girl in this equation and we're talking squeaky clean. The fact that her singular status is so well known boggles my mind...I mean, it's not like she wears a scarlet "V" on her forehead, or took an ad out on the local billboard, or something, and yet somehow, EVERYONE knows.  Cie la vie, she doesn't let it get to her, so why should we?  She was a breath of fresh air to the typical leading lady profile and a lot of fun!  (Hello...fantasy dates?  What the heck?  Have I missed something?  Is this a thing?)  She rolled with the punches (her infamous status, paternal dilemmas, etc), navigated having a mother who was certainly outside the norm (not even mentioning the cousin, ugh!), lived well, and loved fiercely.  Everything she did was done with heart, and everyone who's life she touched was all the better for it.  Now don't get me wrong, she's not a saint...and under someone's tutelage will definitely be exploring other sides to herself...but she is a good person and perhaps just the right match to break someone's superior control skills.  *ahem*

When all is said and done, I really enjoyed this one...characters, story, and community included!  The only downers for me were the crass language at times (Roman is a typical guy, foul language and all), and the darn cowboy hats, boots, and buckles. Otherwise, color me a fan!  Recommended for adult Contemporary Romance fans due to some smexy content.

About the book...
Here begins a haunting new series featuring highly intelligent teenage girls who struggle to survive a specialized high school and find their place in a world that doesn’t understand them. Such is the burden of being brilliant.

Corliss is not like the other girls at her Los Angeles high school. Incredibly intelligent, shy, and a loner, she has difficultly in fitting in. What’s worse, a clique of girls is out to get her because she’s not down with their games.

On the night of a school party, her refusal to take drugs with the girls leads them to take matters into their own hands—spiking her drink. Quickly, Corliss’s entire life is turned upside down and no one—not even the handsome valedictorian who had agreed to go out with her—looks at her the same way. Just when she’s wondering if she’ll be able to return to her high school, someone mentions a new place: Spindrift. Could that be her way out?

Quickie review...
My my my... that was a curious little introduction to The Girls of Spindrift, to say the least!  Our girl, Corliss, has quite the assortment of skanky hooligans running her school. The attack on her (mentally and physically) brought something alive in her, but whether it turns out for the better or the worst, I think remains to be seen in the original release, BITTERSWEET DREAMS. Still, you can't help but feel for her and celebrate those that got the very least of what they deserved.  Message...bullying is bad whatever form it takes, and NO means NO.

About the book...
Being gifted is not something Donna ever wanted. It’s difficult enough to have a Latino father and Irish mother, and her genius only separates her even more from the other girls. They don’t say it, but they blame her for everything that goes wrong, just because she’s different.

And on the precise day she tries her hardest to fit in, everything turns out a disaster. A fight breaks out, and somehow Donna ends up in the middle. It’s not her fault, but it’s her word against theirs, and this time, the other girls aren’t going to stay quiet. The only solution might be to escape to the mysterious school her counselor is telling her about: Spindrift.

Quickie review...
This school just gets curiouser and curiouser! This time around we get a glimpse INSIDE but only a glimpse, as Donna makes her unfortunate debut on its doorstep.  I can't honestly say that I really felt her situation warranted a school change though it was indeed unfortunate, but if it makes her feel safer, more accepted, and provides an easier atmosphere for her to be herself, than more power to her.  Although, I am still highly skeptical of the school counselor somewhat pushing these girls towards this option. Interested in seeing what's REALLY going on or if things are as innocent as they first seem.  Highly doubt it...
